Suspension of royalties settlements from France

Due to outstanding questions with the French authorities regarding withholding tax, SUISA has temporarily suspended the settlement of royalties from France until a clear solution has been found.

The French tax authorities currently no longer recognise SACEM’s sister societies as the “beneficial owners” of the copyright remuneration payable to their members, which would result in a withholding tax deduction of 25%.

SUISA is currently in discussions with SACEM and the French tax authorities so that it continues to be recognised as the “beneficial owner”. Against this background, it has been decided that SACEM will retain the royalties for the time being and will only distribute the corresponding copyright remuneration to SUISA once the matter has been clarified with the French tax authorities.

This situation does not only affect SUISA, but also other collective management organisations, which are likewise seeking clarification with the French authorities.

We regret this situation. Our aim remains to pay our members their royalties as simply as possible and with minimal deductions.
