Dance lessons and fitness classes would be inconceivable without music. And endurance training in the gym is less monotonous if you can watch a film or television broadcast in the process. SUISA delivers the licences for these music uses.

Dance, ballet, fitness, meditation and health classes and courses

Background music

Please bear in mind that licence fees are also due for background music and music on hold. The same applies to the retransmission of television broadcasts or the playing of sound and video recordings for general background entertainment. For further information, see: Background entertainment / Music on hold.

Dance events

Do you organise dance events such as Lindy-hop matinées or Milonga, which are not reserved to course participants and where people can dance freely? Then you need a licence under Common Tariff H (if the event is held in the studio where you also give the courses) or under Common Tariff Hb (if the event is held elsewhere).

Events on your premises

The licence fee is based on the admission price plus the price of the cheapest alcoholic beverage, and the number of guests.

If you play commercially available sound recordings (CDs, MP3s, Streaming, etc.), we will charge you an additional fee on behalf of SWISSPERFORM for the rights of the performing artists and producers (neighbouring rights).

Reduction for contract customers and trade associations

If you conclude a contract with SUISA covering your events, you can claim reductions of up to 25% provided you comply with the contractual terms and conditions. Members of a national trade association are entitled to an additional reduction of 10%.

Please refer to the fact sheet for more detailed information. The fee per event is shown in the calculation table  (up to 400 persons / from 410 persons).

Events in third-party venues

If the admission fee is CHF 17 or over, the licence fee is calculated as a percentage of your ticket sales. Otherwise, we will charge you a flat fee depending on the size of the venue (CT Hb).

How to proceed:

Please send us the duly completed questionnaire. We will then issue the licence and invoice. Once your payment is received, we distribute the remuneration to the beneficiary composers, lyricists, and publishers.

Background music

Please bear in mind that licence fees are due on background music and music on hold. This also applies to the retransmission of TV broadcasts or performances from audio and audiovisual recordings for general background entertainment. For more information, see: Background entertainment / Music on hold.
