Comedy, shows, cabaret, theatre and ballet (CT K)

Stagings where music only plays a subordinate or accompanying role and ballets where the dancers do not personify any typical role involve “small rights” which SUISA licenses based on Common Tariff K. SUISA also licenses the music used in comedy acts and other shows, and in concerts.

The events regulated by Common Tariff K are defined in the Tariff itself. The licence fee is expressed as a percentage of ticket sales for authors’ rights and for neighbouring rights if sound recordings are used (MP3s, CDs, or streams, for example). Provided a complete list of works is filed in good time, the applicable percentage will be reduced proportionally with the ratio of the duration of the music to the total duration of the show. A reduced percentage will also apply if not all the works listed are managed by SUISA.

By way of exception, the licence fee may be calculated based on the costs for musicians (artists’ fees, agents’ fees, and travel and accommodation costs), local rent and PA system. For more details, please consult the relevant fact sheet and tariff.

The highest licence fee rates are as follows:

  • concerts: 10% for authors' rights and 3% for neighbouring rights;
  • concert-like performances (e.g. tribute shows, comedy): 8.5% for authors' rights and 2.55% for neighbouring rights;
  • shows (e.g. vaudeville) and ballet: 5% for authors' rights and 1.8% for neighbouring rights;
  • theatre: 3% for authors' rights and 1.08% for neighbouring rights.

You are entitled to a reduction if you are a member of a recognised trade association such as t. theaterschaffende Schweiz or SBV, or if you conclude a contract with SUISA for your shows, provided you comply with your contractual obligations.

How to proceed

Send us the duly completed questionnaire together with your list of works. We will then issue the licence and invoice. Once your payment is received, we shall distribute the revenues to the beneficiary composers, lyricists and publishers.
