Common Tariff 4i

Pursuant to Common Tariff 4i, the obligation to pay a levy applies to all of the following:


•    all types of smart cards and hard discs built into audio or video recording devices where such devices are marketed mainly for recording and playing protected works and services (e.g. MP3 player, DVD recorders with built-in hard discs or multimedia server);

•    digital storage space in smartphones and tablets

•    and digital storage media delivered to consumers together with any such devices.


Levy rates

For storage space in audio recording devices

  • up to and including 4 GB           CHF 2.39
  • up to and including 8 GB           CHF 4.35
  • up to and including 16 GB         CHF 5.05
  • up to and including 32 GB         CHF 7.76
  • more than 32 GB                       CHF 12.11


For storage space in video recording devices

  • up to and including 250 GB       CHF 20.19
  • up to and including 1 TB            CHF 47.50
  • more than 1 TB                          CHF 57.00


For storage space in smartphones

  • up to and including 16 GB         CHF 0.98
  • up to and including 32 GB         CHF 1.69
  • up to and including 64 GB         CHF 2.80
  • up to and including 128 GB       CHF 5.38
  • more than 128 GB                     CHF 10.50


For storage space in tablets

  • up to and including 16 GB         CHF 2.02
  • up to and including 32 GB         CHF 3.24
  • up to and including 64 GB         CHF 5.30
  • up to and including 128 GB       CHF 9.96
  • up to and including 256 GB       CHF 18.89
  • up to and including 512 GB       CHF 35.94
  • more than 512 GB                     CHF 57.00


The levies do not include VAT, if any, which is payable additionally at the applicable rate.


After import/delivery  


Manufacturers and importers are required to provide SUISA with all requisite invoicing information including, in particular, the following indications broken down per category of carrier:

•    the number of produced or imported blank carriers with the relevant storage capacity;
•    the number of produced or imported audio and video recording devices;
•    the number of blank media carriers exported – indicating storage capacity – and the number of audio and video recording devices exported (with a copy of the corresponding customs documents).

Unless otherwise agreed, such data and documents must be communicated on a monthly basis, no later than 20 days after the end of each month.


Follow-up procedure 
 

After receiving the declaration form, SUISA will prepare the invoice based on the movements in the blank storage media subject to the levy in the declaration period.
