In Memoriam: Hans Ulrich Lehmann

SUISA’s former President Hans Ulrich Lehmann has passed away. He died on Saturday, 26 January, at the age of 75.

Hans Ulrich Lehmann is considered one of the most significant Swiss composers of classical music of his generation. His work was honoured with many awards, including the Kunstpreis der Stadt Zürich in 1993. Lehmann was not only a dedicated composer and teacher, he was also a pioneer and a leader. From 1976 to 1998, he was Director of the Conservatory and the Musikhochschule in Zurich and he presided the Schweizer Tonkünstlerverein for a number of years. Hans Ulrich Lehmann was elected to SUISA’s Board in 1987 and became President of SUISA in 1991. He stepped down in 2011. As its founding president, he directed FONDATION SUISA, which promotes musical creation in Switzerland, from 1989 to 1991.

We are deeply grateful to him for his dedication to authors’ rights, his interest in SUISA’s cultural mission and his commitment on behalf of the FONDATION SUISA. SUISA’s Board, Executive Committee and staff extend their most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
