Background entertainment means music, films or television used as accompaniment or in a subsidiary function. That includes:

  • Sound and sound and video carriers played in the background
  • Radio and television programs played in the background, including via internet

Background entertainment is typical in

  • Stores
  • Restaurants
  • Waiting rooms
  • Work rooms

Tariff GT3a also applies to telephone music-on-hold

The Tariff applies to music copyrights (the rights of composers, writers and photographers) and to neighbouring rights (the rights of performers, producers and broadcasting companies). SUISA represents SWISSPERFORM, ProLitteris, SSA and SUISSIMAGE as the central collecting agency for Tariff CT3a.
